Customer Service -- Top Priority

Customer Service is one of the key elements that keep our customers coming back to us.  But the care that we take in handling their material.   Our warehouse facilities handle a lot of tubing for numerous customers and projects.  Some which remain here for a few days and some a year.  But all material is treated with respect and stacked.

A little extra help

There are times,  when our overhead Heavy Lift Capacity is just not quite enough.  for this 225,000 pound piece,  we teamed up with Consolidated Crane Services to get the job done in a timely manner while taking all safety precautions.

Over the years,  one thing that we can plan on,  is that plans change, and Dixie Cullen must be flexible.  Some items come to us for transloading and end up needing to stay in storage for a little while for one reason or another.  While other items come in for long term storage and something changes and it's shipping long before the customer had intended it to ship.  While still others come and go on a continous basis.  

Through it all,  we strive to keep a cutomers equipment and/or material in one area, together for their quick and easy access.

And we thought . . . .

We have a large assortment of  "spreader beams"  that we use in our day to day operations at our warehouse facility.  However this one give new meaning to "BIG".   It's designed for 400 Ton lifting capacity and we're storing it until it's sent to the ship that it will be used on.

Cargo Insurance Claims

Given the number of loads that we receive in and out of our warehouse facality,  paying attention to the small details, photo journaling each load, notating damages,  immediately notifying our customers when such damage is found,  and yes it does occur.   But what happens once you our customer receive the information from us.  Or what happens when it's shipped direct to your facility.   Each step that you take is very important to the recovery of your losses.

It's been an exciting week here at Dixie Cullen,  projects shipping out and equipment coming in.  It's the perfect week for a company such as ours.   

We had several of these 108,000 pound pieces come in within a matter of hours of each other.

World Steel Production Increases in October

Production of crude steel, a key breakbulk cargo, in the 66 countries that report to the World Steel Associaiton increased 3% from September to October, or to 112,177 Million metric tons from 108,816 metric tons. However, total global steel production for the ten months through October lagged 13.5%, reaching only 982,143 metrick tons compared to 1,135,544 during the same period of 2008.

Chinese steel production during the first ten months of 2009 was 472,474 metric ton, an increase of 10.5% over the same perios in 2008. China's ten-month 2009 total accounted for 48% of global total for the period. Japan accounted for about 7% of the global total; Russia, about 5%; India, about 5%, US, about 5%, South Korea, about 4% and the EU, about 11%

Low dollar boosts used equipment exports

If there is any silver lining for the shipping industry in the clouds enveloping the US economy, it's the increase in exports fueled by the weakness of the dollar. For the breakbulk and project cargo sector of the industry, the export boom has generated a big increase in shipments of used construction and agricultural equipment, dismantled plants, old locomotives and high and heavy vehicles.

The trend is so pronounced that some breakbulk ports are beginning to look like giant garage sales -- with every inch of storage yard stacked high wuth used cranes, dismantled refining equipment, graders, bulldozers, harvesters and tractors.
